Omikuji Application
Omikuji (All 6 languages)
~ fortune slip ~
Omikuji is a random drawing to get a fortune and traditionally, people have visited the shrines and temples to get their Omikuji from a Shrine maiden called Miko. This tradition, originally imported from China, is an important custom in Japanese culture as many Japanese use Omikuji to consult with God during important times in life such as New Year’s Day and marriage. After praying, they draw Omikuji, believing that the fortune is an oracle from God.
Traditionally, when people visit shrines, they draw a stick with a number on it from a container and give it to Miko, the shrine maiden. Miko offers the Omikuji paper that matches the number on the stick.
If the Omikuji is unfavorable, people often tie that Omikuji to a nearby tree twig within the shrine or temple grounds believing that by leaving it there, it will not come true.
This app is like an instant Omikuji! Just use your phone and draw your Omikuji anytime and from any place you feel the urge to see what your next fortune may be! Enjoy the essence of the Japanese culture at the convenience of your phone!
